Dedicated to all my friends.

Still with minimal responsibilities, School Life is potentially the last few best years of your Life. With minimal external restrictions, you choose the way you want to live. However, ironically, this freedom is interpreted not as a platform to endless rest and relaxation but rather, as an opportunity to embrace more responsibilities. As a student, you have the responsibility of studying hard. More importantly, you have the responsibility to play hard. Yet how many truly understand the essence of this statement? You have to play hard because, simply, it is You, the person that your family and friends want you to be. Yet playing hard comes on the condition of having fulfilled your basic duty of studying hard. Essentially it means double effort. And when you see yourself going somewhere with this effort, satisfaction and overall well being follows. MM Lee says that no man is equal and they will never be equal. I agree because every man has the capacity and potential to grow beyond that of everyone else, so long as you fulfill your responsibility, and right now, as a student. Fret not over Life after graduation, as it is an exciting new chapter with maximum responsibilities. Your embracing your responsibilities as a student right now will serve you well then. But for now, please enjoy your Life in school, my friend. Love, Ke Ching.

Calibration Part 1

This post is dedicated to Ms J.Y. She has declined to be named, but has kindly allowed me to share her "Targets for Year 2007" with my readers.

I was shocked when I saw her targets for 2008 attached to the white board, where it is conspicuous from every angle, in her room. It was my privilege to have seen this latest.

Her goals are well categorised in a broad, simple manner, encompassing every area in her life. Further, there are definite timelines. The annual renewal and updating of these targets calibrates her mind, fine-tunes it and keeps her Life goals in clear sight. The continual visual exposure of these goals feeds her subconscious mind with nutrition, which eventually leads to positive habits that need no conscious effort on her part. This explains her drive and that fire in her eyes.

My dear readers, food for thought for the Chinese New Year. Have a great year ahead.
